The Commission on the History of Anthropology (CHOA) is now accepting panel proposals and additional submissions for the 2027 meeting of the World Anthropology Union Congress which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 31 August to 4 September 2027. Please find details and a note of welcome below from Celso Castro and Frederico Delgado Rosa.

Dear Colleagues,

We warmly welcome the new members of CHOA and extend our greetings to our growing community. Thank you for your continued support in helping to spread the word about CHOA and for your engagement in the commission’s activities.

Today, we would like to draw your attention to our first major event, which will take place in Lisbon from 31 August to 4 September 2027: the WAU Congress. At this event, IUAES commissions such as CHOA will play a key role by organizing or endorsing their respective panels (each commission may sponsor more than one panel).

The Call for Panels and other formats is now officially open until 25 September 2026 (see here: https://www.waucongress2027.org/call-for-panels/). We encourage you to submit your panel proposals. If you would like your panel to receive the CHOA label, please share the proposal with us before submitting it.

In any case, please keep us informed of your submissions so that we do not lose track of the initiatives developed by CHOA members.

We also remind you that our social media channels, particularly Instagram and Facebook, are open to your suggestions. Please do not hesitate to share news with us by email. We will be delighted to promote new publications, events, and other activities related to the history of anthropology, whether authored or organized by you or by other colleagues in our field.
